Blood Quantam and how we can overcome this dilemma
🔹 BASELINE: Your Son’s Blood Quantum
You are full Navajo (100%).
Your child’s mother is Filipina (0% Navajo).
➡️ Your son’s Navajo blood quantum = ½ (50%)
He qualifies for Navajo enrollment (minimum is ¼ or 25%).
🔹 SCENARIO A: Your Son Marries a Full Navajo Woman (100%)
Their child:
Gets ½ from your son × 50% = ¼
Gets ½ from full Navajo mother × 100% = ½
➡️ Total Navajo blood quantum = ¾ (75%)
✅ Their child qualifies for enrollment
✅ Their grandchild (if married to a Navajo) likely still qualifies
➕ This branch continues the lineage under current rules
🔹 SCENARIO B: Your Son Marries a Non-Navajo Woman (0%)
Their child:
Gets ½ from your son × 50% = ¼
Gets ½ from non-Navajo mother × 0% = 0
➡️ Total Navajo blood quantum = ¼ (25%)
✅ Bare minimum for enrollment
⚠️ If that child marries a non-Navajo, the next generation is at ⅛ (12.5%)—ineligible for enrollment
This is where the line ends under current blood quantum rules.
